As we approach the summer and start planning that relaxing vacation, or those weekend getaways, I figured this would be a great time to suggest a few good summer reads to help us all to change the way we think and manage our finances and in turn to help us make better decisions with money.
First and foremost for those of us God fearing, God loving men and women, the most important understanding we need to have and continually be reminded of is that it is not “our money.” It all belongs to God and whatever we have or don’t have comes from God. We are all called to be good stewards of whatever God so chooses to bless us with.
In the words of Randy Alcorn, we are just the FedEx men that God at times blesses us with His money, to use to bless others, help others and spread the Gospel.
So, while you are laying on that beach, soaking up the rays, working on that tan (except for my wife and I who do not like the beach, heat, cold water, nor sand), here are some recommendations to pass the time while giving you a better understanding about money and life.
First and foremost read the Bible. God has a lot to say about the subject of money. Even just start reading through the proverbs and see what God has to tell you.
Another great read that I would highly recommend to those about to go off to college is Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
Money, Possessions, and Eternity by Randy Alcorn
The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason
Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley
Great book on how to invest that I highly recommend and the secret to Warren Buffet’s success is The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
Or you can just stick to the New York Times Bestseller list and learn The ObamaCare Survival Guide, The Five Love Languages or the Latest Diet Fad and keep your head in the sand when it comes to how you manage and make your decisions about money.
The decision is yours…..
